Liquid Fence works good for me but is expensive and needs to be re-applied after rain, dont spray the whole tree but just lower buds they can reach, small hand sprayer can do the job. Lee Elliott Upstart Nursery.

Milorganite in a plastic bag works well. Refill every 3
months. Lead
or fence is best.

This week I tried some very light weight quarter-inch
open mesh
plastic net bags that Amazon.com
calls “Yellow net bags”
or something like that. They don’t catch
wind, and might be
useful if they could be bought in larger size that
could be
pulled down over the whole tree. Mine are about
10 x 20
inches when flat. On single one-year-old branches
that are
making
lateral shoots, they crowd the leaves over each
other,
limiting photosynthesis and bending shoot growth.
I’ve not
found a source
of large bags.

Anyone ever tried or have any
idea if
Surround (kaolin clay) repels deer or makes
little apple
trees less desirable to feed upon?
